The 2006 Royal Rumble that took place in Miami, Florida was Sylvain’s first and only Royal Rumble appearance. He qualified for the Rumble match by defeating Scotty Too Hotty on the 21 January edition of Velocity. Sylvain was the 10th entrant into the Rumble match and he immediately went after Bobby Lashley, telling who the two of them would be going for. When Lashley turned his back, Sylvain punched him, which resulted in Lashley throwing Sylvain from the ring after approximately 20 seconds.

Since René Duprée had been drafted to Smackdown, La Résistance were on a roll. They challenged the then-World Tag Team champions of Edge and Chris Benoit in Montreal, where they came out to a rather huge pop. The match went back and forth until Edge went to spear Sylvain who saw it coming and moved, resulting in Edge spearing Benoit. They then did their tandem move Au Revoir with Sylvain covering Edge for the pinfall.

La Resistance debut on Raw

Taking a trip down memory lane to bring you La Resistance’s debut on Raw on 28 April 2003! This was back during the war in Iraq and the French Government (amongst others – my own Government was one of those that didn’t support it) had decided that they wouldn’t support it. Various La Resistance vignettes had aired during the previous weeks, indicating that they would be debuting very soon.

30 March 2003. Seattle, Washington. Backstage, Sylvain Grenier is walking around with a smile on his face which quickly turns into a grin when he finds what he is looking for – the door to Mr McMahon’s office. After knocking on it and saying something in French, Sylvain enters and the door closes.

Partway through the match between Mr McMahon and Hulk Hogan, the original referee is thrown from the ring and Mr McMahon makes the signal for a new one to come down to the ring. Sylvain runs down, followed close behind by yet another referee. After a brief scuffle, where Sylvain punches the other referee, he enters the ring. As Sylvain runs towards the ring, Michael Cole remarks that he was the referee in the main event match at No Way Out the month before where he screwed Hulk Hogan and that everyone saw Sylvain backstage earlier.

Mr McMahon uses Hogan’s leg drop on him and goes for the pin but Hogan kicks out at two, much to the amazement of Mr McMahon and Sylvain. He starts hulking up, takes out Mr McMahon then turns his attention to Sylvain. Sylvain tries to get a couple of punches in but they are blocked by Hogan who gets in a few punches of his own before throwing Sylvain out of the ring.

SummerSlam 2003 rebound

Match report:

After Sunday Night Heat, the pay-per-view event began with a tag team match for the World Tag Team Championship, where the champions, La Résistance, defended their titles against The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von). Throughout the match, both teams performed many offensive maneuvers, though The Dudley Boyz were able to gain the upper hand when they executed a flapjack and cutter combination on Duprée. As D-Von covered Duprée, Rob Conway was disguised as a cameraman and hit D-Von with a camera while the referee was distracted. Duprée then covered D-Von for a successful pinfall, in the process retaining the World Tag Team Championship for his team.
